Top Things to do and don’t when doing House Painting Jobs

Many people dismiss painting as a super easy job in the construction process. We agree that it doesn’t need heavy lifting. However, painting has more to it than it seems. Rushing a paint job and not making adequate preparations will result in poor or low quality of finish. As an owner, you should consider what you will be looking at for years to come. Painting and finishes will be affected by how the surface of your walls and ceilings looks like. You may need to consider doing power washing to optimize surface preparation.

As experienced and reliable painting professionals, New England Paint Pros pride ourselves in our quick turnaround times and the quality of our hard workers. We ensure that our clients have a space that can bring the utmost value to their business, allowing new tenants to move in quickly. We also care for our client’s clients, and we ensure they have a business space that they will be satisfied with for a long extra time.

In this article, we share how things we approach on what to do and what not to do during house painting for our clients and how we deliver the highest quality finish.

Things To Do during House Painting

1. When primers are necessary:

– When the surface is porous such as wood, masonry, bricks, or unpainted drywall.

– When heavy stains are present on the surface.

– When applying lighter-coloured paint over a darker surface (such as white over bare concrete)

– The surface is too glossy

2. When the primer is not necessary:

– The surface is already perfect for painting over.

– When painting over a color that is already similar to what you want to paint with (brown over brown, for instance)

– When painting a darker color over a surface with a lighter color.

3. Preparing right before work

There will still be heavy lifting at work during paint jobs, which happens before the home’s interior painting project. Consider all the furniture and décor that can be removed and can’t.

Remove all furniture and decors as much as possible to allow for more space to work. If certain pieces of furniture can’t be moved, then you will need to have these appropriately covered.

4. Dealing with switches and sockets

Like windows, it is better to do paint jobs before the sockets and switches are installed. However, in most cases, these are already in place as professional painters come in after the electricians leave. Masking tape is also a viable option, like how it is done with windows if the sockets and switches are not removed first.

5. Calculating how much paint and primers are needed

Our house painting experts in the industry know how to approach cost depending on the job required and the total area needed for paint application. Approach costing and assessing which paints and primers prudently and carefully to determine precisely the amount required.

Things Not To Do during House Painting

1. Hasty finishing: the Overall Job

Giving a quick turnaround time does not equate to rushing a job.

Prudence is important for painting services experience because mistakes and imperfections will take time to rework.

Worse yet, shoddy painting job can ruin a painter’s reputation.

2. Hasty finishing: Painting over moulds and imperfections

Proper surface preparation is essential for achieving a long-lasting paint finish. Stain-blocking primers can temporarily block the molds or prevent color from bleeding through. However, it does not kill the mold and will surely damage it soon. The proper preparation to deal with moldy walls is to stop the source of the moisture and kill the mold first before the painting job commences.

3. Not undoing imperfections

Using flat finishes is a lazy way to hide imperfections. However, defects are still there, leading to more significant problems later. For instance, paint bubbles will eventually pop and start more significant defects over time. Proper surface preparation is best painters to prevent these instances and fix the flaws before painting the other surfaces.

4. Painting the walls first before the ceiling

The proper rule of thumb is to paint a higher surface before painting a lower surface. The risk of painting the ceiling after painting the walls is the paint bleeding or splattering down to the walls. In that case, that is harder to rework.

5. Not sanding

Professional painters will risk imperfections or less-than-ideal finish if they ignore proper sanding before applying latex on an oil finish or oil on a latex finish. This coating will require a rough and clean finish.

We know how to prepare surfaces properly. And combined with our knowledge and painting experience working with different surface conditions covering a vast range of applications from residential and commercial painting company use, we can assure our clients of the best quality and strong work ethic at the quickest time and reasonable costs.
